following art classes are fee supported
Basketry
Although the modern world offers much in the way
of alternative choices, few homes
are without some form of basket. They still provide
us with a link to the
natural world and a more natural lifestyle |

Beginning
Basketry
In this class we will make a raffia
coiled basket, a pine needle basket, a wicker
woven tea strainer, and a woven berry/tomato
basket. The instructor, Beverley Roest, has
a Master’s Degree in Fine Arts and has
taught art classes locally since 1970. Please
bring either clippers or sharp scissors. $35
materials fee paid at first class.

Native/Wild
Basketry
In this class we will be weaving with basketry
materials native to and growing in our area:
philodendron leaf sheaths, date palm fruit
stalks, native willows, cattail and more.
We will be weaving a ribbed basket, a twined
and woven basket; and a pine needle sampler
stitch teneriffé. Please bring either
clippers or sharp scissors. $35 materials
fee paid at first class.

Beginning
Decorative Painting/Session 1
Learn the basics of Bavarian Folk Art and
the basic strokes of decorative painting.
You can learn to paint flowers, leaves and
more with a few learnable strokes. In decorative
painting, patterns and step-by-step techniques
are used, so drawing ability is not necessary
for success. Please come to class prepared
to paint, a supply list is available at registration.
Materials fee of $15 (paid to instructor at
the first class) includes patterns, instructions,
color lesson guide, paint, and two project
pieces. Students will provide one project
piece later in the class.

Beginning
Decorative Painting/Session 2
Learn to paint flowers using a filbert brush.
We will practice hydrangeas, daisies, and
others. They are fun and easier than you think!
Please come to class prepared to paint. Bring
paper towels, brushes, pencil, and palette
tray. A $12.00 materials fee will be collected
at the first class. This includes a #4 filbert
brush, patterns, paint and two project pieces.

Right
Brain Drawing
Seeing well is the key to drawing well. Learn
to draw by seeing differently and more intuitively.
Based on the field-tested method of Betty
Edwards and the latest right/left brain research,
exercises are designed to access the brain's
right side and enhance creativity and artistic
confidence. Materials extra.

Brain Portrait Drawing
Human faces have always fascinated artists.
To catch a likeness, to show the exterior
in such a way that the inner person can be
seen, is a challenging, inviting prospect.
Using the highly successful Right Brain-mode
method of drawing, you’ll find that
drawing portraits is not difficult once you
can shift to the artist’s way of seeing.

photographs. We will cover cameras, film,
exposure and the art of seeing and photographing

The
following classes are open entry--start anytime
The following classes are open to adults 55 and over
with a $15 registration fee. Adults under 55 are welcome
with $35 registration fee unless otherwise noted. New
students are always welcome.
Ceramics
Greenware decorating or learn how to pour your own
with many class molds from which to choose. Learn
hand-building techniques with clay, how to use underglazes
and glazes. From beginning skills to advanced, students
learn in a fun, supportive and instructive environment.

An open entry class for all levels of experience. Join
other students in learning the basic techniques and fundamentals
of art using many mediums. We will explore, have fun and
make art in a supportive and encouraging environment.
You can work on class projects, or bring in your own.
We will learn about line, value, balance, shape, form,
texture, color, art history, art appreciation and art
