Community-Based English Tutoring
The Community-Based English Tutoring Program provides English as a Second Language to adults with special curriculum for parents and interested adults who promise to tutor an English learning school-aged child.
Classes focus on:
• Basic communication in English: listening, speaking, reading, and writing
• Language practice for everyday communication
• An introduction to computers (in most classes)
Parenting Skills:
• The importance of parental involvement in a child’s education
• Helping children to become effective readers
• Creating an environment conducive to monitoring a child’s homework
• Understanding the school system and how to speak to a child’s teacher
Bring one to your school or organization!
The following presentations can be given in English or Spanish. They are free to parents through Watsonville/Aptos Adult Education if there are 20 or more regular attendees. They can also be offered through a service contract to organizations and businesses.

- The Risks and Realities of Adolescence.
- Drug identification and how they affect the body and the family.
- Psychosocial factors influencing youth to join gangs.
- Think College Early.

Latino Family Literacy Project Fun, interactive and culturally meaningful! This 14 week series is aimed at developing a love for reading, establishing a family reading routine and developing parent leadership skills. The program features the Latino Family Literacy Project which utilizes structures for small group discussion, large group presentation and art activities. Each participant completes a Family Album dedicated to their children. Other themes which encourage parent participation in their child’s education are also offered.
These workshops are given at various locations throughout Watsonville. Call Teresa Rodriguez at Extended Learning ( 786-2100 x 300) for times and locations of workshops or to schedule one at your location if you have 25 or more participants.
