  • Review the vocabulary from Objective #1.
  • Introduce new vocabulary: Teacher points to matching picture or real object and says, "It’s paper etc." Act out or show in-class examples for additional clarity as possible and needed. Ask students to repeat pronunciation.
  • Recognition: Teacher holds up two objects/pictures and names one, e.g., It’s a newspaper." Students point to the picture/object that matches the word heard.
  • Naming: Teacher points to the correct picture/object and asks, "What is it?" Prompt students as needed to answer correctly, "It’s paper. etc"
  • Vary question structure to include a negative and go over objects one or more times, e.g.

Teacher(while holding up a can): "Is it paper?

    Students: "No, it isn’t."

    Teacher: "What is it?

    Students: " It’s a can."

  • Whole class in a giant circle. Ask each student to pass each picture/object to the person on his/her right, first asking the question "What is it?" and receiving the correct answer before passing it over. The receiving student turns and passes it on in the same manner so that the pictures or objects are moving around the class in a large circle. (Students should be encouraged to help each other answer correctly.)
