Watsonville/Aptos Adult School has an accredited high school diploma program designed to assist adults in the completion of graduation requirements. Students may complete credits, earn a high school diploma or prepare for the GED in a self-paced program with programs designed to fit individual student needs, are provided for every student preparing for the high school diploma, GED or other educational goal. A student advisor is available by appointment to assist students who have completed registration and assessment. Although classes begin in the Learning Center on August 16, 2004, students may enter the open-entry program at any time during the semester. Appointments may be made at the time of the assessment, or by calling 728-6330.

Students should arrive at least one hour before closing times in order to complete registration and assessment.

There is no fee for high school diploma students. Other adults who wish to take classes for personal improvement will be charged a supply fee of $10 and be required to purchase textbooks.

Test Preparation/Basic Skills (READING, WRITING & MATH)

Learning Center hours:

Monday - Thursday 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

This program teaches reading, writing and mathematics at the basic level and prepares students for the PVUSD high school basic skills tests. No fee.

 

Concurrent Enrollment for High School Students

High school students seeking "make-up" credit or preparation for the PVUSD Basic Skills tests or the California High School Exit Exam may enroll concurrently in the adult school after meeting with a high school counselor and parent or caregiver to obtain a release form. Students register in the Adult Learning Center. Students must be also be registered in the regular PVUSD high school summer program. No fee.

SECOND OPPORTUNITY FOR STUDENTS (SOS)

Students can earn high school credits. SOS is for young people age 15 through 19 who have dropped out of school. SOS helps the student to return to regular high school, prepare for the test of General Educational Development (GED) or obtain an adult high school diploma. Job skills, computer literacy and vocational training are also offered. Please call the Academic Vocational Charter Institute at 780-2100 ext. 378 for information and an appointment. No fee.

ADULT BASIC EDUCATION

Beginning, intermediate and advanced levels of pre GED reading, writing, and mathematics. No fee.

Test of General Educational development (GED)

Green Valley Center,

*Persons taking their first test must arrive one hour before test time to
complete the application. No one will be admitted once the testing has begun.

The GED is a five-part examination which measures a person's general educational development in comparison to that of high school graduates. Tests, given in English or Spanish, are: Mathematics, Science, Social Studies, Writing, and Literature and the Arts. Students can prepare for the GED tests in English and Spanish and take practice tests at the Downtown Center. The examinations are given at the Green Valley Center, 294 Green Valley Road, Watsonville. Anyone wishing to take the test must be 18 years of age and have a valid photo identification. The total cost is $75 ($9 for each test, plus $30 for fees and certificate0 payable at the time of registration. Payment must be made in cash or credit card only. No checks are accepted for GED. The fee for retaking a test is $10. Appointments for the GED exams must be made in person at the Green Valley Center, Watsonville.
